NYC Pride and Sunshine 2005: DJ Ang, Donna Summer, and Jules

NYC Pride and Sunshine 2005, originally uploaded by andresist.

After the Manhattan "Consumerism" Pride Parade, us down queer folkx (Ms. Marian, Angela Can't Handle Hah, DJ Ang, Jules, Donna Summer, and myself Dr. Dre) headed to Dragonfly for what we THOUGHT was just going to be some grubbing and chattin. What we didn't know was that we'd be seated right next to the DJ booth and get to eat, dance n fag out to Janet, J.lo, and Keils... yes honey and on top of that we had cute seats by the window: we were letting 7th av have it, honey, yes!

Oh those. Oh, Mom, don't be silly. A friend of mine from Kingston gave me those wrist bands. He grew up in Toronto. He's very proud of his Jamaican Canadian heritage!

At Color Me Queer, you could tell Verushka's tight friends from her acquaintances cause the latter would be, "Oh, hey whats up girl! Love the threads. It's Hot." But her friends would be like, "OH GRRL!! Whats up with the dress?!? Hell froze over yet?" She did look hot though.

Rock on, V, rock on.

B E L I E V E

B E L I E V E, originally uploaded by andresist.

I.

I've been to Paradise and back
It's beautiful, I refound myself
I know now that the world has got too much for me
and I too much for it
to be sweating you!

the sea tourquise
the people black
the bulla stares blacker

Taint perfect, but its love for me and my love for it will
remain forever

Can't say the same for your sometimes love

On my second night, I healed myself
yes, I thought of you and that sometimes when
your touch comforted
but that faded, just like you

II.

I healed myself

the cool air from a night storm
the panadol I found in Rudy and Lorenz's medicine cabinet
the glass of water

Sickness is part of Me
and I am apart of Sickness

Those thoughts pills molecules and liquids
were all there

So I healed myself, with them, me, us

Yes, yes, I'm ready for my close up Mr. Lancaster!
I know now that I have too much to offer Andre
Andre has too much to offer me
To be sweatin' anybody but my self love

Lifestyles of the Rich, Famous, and Posers: Part II

Lifestyles of the Rich, Famous, and Posers: Part I

Lorenz works as a florist at Sandy Lane Beach and Golf Resort. On my last day there he gave me the tour. As you can see I fit right in. :)

Lorenz was telling me that when Tiger Woods got married here in March, his yacht was too big to fit in Sandy Lane's dock, so he had to park it further down the coast and trek it back to w here his guests were staying at the resort. Apparently Tiger was pretty well received by folks on the island, which normally folks are pissed at Sandy Lane cause they have so much freaking land but ain't tryin to share it with nobody...

the struggle continues... (after my 8 dollar virgin strawberry daquiri).

Some New Ideas For Life + Living

Study color. My room at Rudy and Lorenz home testifies to my personal need to understand the science behind the art (or the art behind the science).

More plants in the house

Entertain guest with grace and care.

Dining room tables aren’t so bad. Rudy and Lorenz really had the hook up. When we sat done for dinner at their table, we could all see each other. After my experience here at Rudy and Lorenz’s lovely dining table, I think its nice to have a fancy dinner in the confines of one’s own home. It’s romantic and intimate!

Wear neutral colors.

Distinguish work clothes from evening clothes (dinner and partying).

Host people in Brooklyn. Rudy and Lorenz have philosophy about traveling and the importance of knowing folks in your travel city. Without knowing folks can lead to isolate and lack of true knowing of the city and its lifestyle. Note: As you host, remember that you still have limits to what you can do, but ask them what they want to do and try to think of ways to mesh. Be cool about it and thoughtful to you and them.

Be presumptuous and don’t be afraid to do it! With regard to dating and crushes, you were a-mazing yesterday for revealing your feelings about Roland to him. I love that you said, “I have a big crush onyou, but I do want to honor the boys that have been smitten by you for sometime longer than me, though they aren’t physically here, I want to honor and respect what you all have going on.” You are dope, Andre.

Go to the Beach. Park. Anywhere outside the city more often.

Find the peace and beauty of the Bajan Coast within your everyday New York surroundings and life.

Show affection without abandon. Remember the struggle of your Bajan Brothas and Sistas who can’t always do the same. Note: Rudy and Lorenz asked that I not post their pictures on the internet.

A big open living room allows you to be comfortable and it’s also inviting. Look for this.

A desktop computer in the bedroom sucks out energy and becomes a focus point which might be ok for a study or workroom but the bedroom is for resting, most importantly.

Define what each room in your home means to you: kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and living room.

My last night in Barbados. Rudy and Lorenz brought me home this absolutely divine grilled Marlin fish with salad and potatoes. We watched a bit of TV (Rudy likes sci-fi too!), the movie The Core, and a bit of Lifetime Real Women.

I wanted to write some before I hit the sack to reflect about my trip, particularly with regards to my body and spirit. When I first arrived, I noticed how loose and free Rudy moved and how others here had a relaxed body/walk. Coming from NYC where people’s bodies are always tense and rigid, I was delighted to witness such organic movement. I want to incorporate this into my life!
