I don't mean to be a hater boo, but come on, she axin' 4 it!

"There is nothing wrong with holding an opinion and holding it passionately," she said. "But at those times when you are absolutely sure you're right, go find someone who disagrees." - NY Times

...and break the law, call out they wifey, ruin her career and every reporter who has a tite lip! lol. oh she is fierce, alright, good lord!

these ppl in that white house, i tell ya, black, white, shade of clarence.. lol.. they crazy.

and in power.

About a week ago I posted this recent article on the blog. Here's a snippet:

The United States is home to the most severe HIV epidemic of any developed country, and the 1.1 million people infected in the U.S. make our HIV population the tenth largest in the world. The nine countries with higher rates of HIV infection than the U.S. are all located in sub-Saharan Africa.

And of course the folks bearing the brunt of this epidemic in U.S. are Blacks - black bodies everywhere are fighting this disease. All of this makes me that much more passionate about my latest play - This Ain't The Future. It's about a black gay man named Xzaveah challenging the silence of black leaders re HIV through his controversial, underground radio program. Whenever I get to work on this play, i get all riled up b/c thats exactly how i feel sometimes. we're up against so much with HIV. you got ppl's personal insecurities, fears, guilts, but then you got parents not talkin to their kids about sex, gay kids havin to learn about sex own their own, u.s govt pushin abstinence over condoms... it's just so much to battle against. that a personality like Xzaveah - channelling his frustration into his on air rants and raves - is a believeable, *possible* character in the fight against HIV in the blk community.

Last week me and my new roommate stopped at Hue-man bookstore in Harlem. I went in just to peruse but ended up buy 50 bucks worth of books - damn impulsive aries! i did get some good ones tho or at least i think - L.A. Bank's vampire book The Damned (haven't read her yet. actually was looking for an octavia butler book, but when i couldn't find any... they probably flyin off the shelves these days... i picked up banks. we shall see), James Baldwin's Amen Corner (can you believe i've never read or seen it!?) and Longing to Tell by Tricia Rose - which has rocked my world. Tricia Rose is an American Studies Professor out at UC Santa Cruz (what up gina!?!) who set out to write more of a traditional book about black women, sexuality, and intimacy, but after conducting the interviews with black women for the book she decided to make it just that, narrative/interview based. the book has totally rocked my world. every story is so powerful. i keep telling ppl that black gay men need this same type of book in which we can lay it all down - and in so doing learn, share, grow together. as a boy, i particularly value this book cause i don't necessarily have sisters talkin to me about their sexuality. so i feel like i have an honest window and perspective into their experiences, which i'm open to hearing and actually gain a lot of incite from.

chk this app out, mac headz... my boy jules fwd'd it on me to. will be great for concentrating on a particular task as opposed to be distracted cleaning up my messy-ass desktop and that chat windown in the background.

thankes jules!

update: ok so today iz my machead day apparently. for awhile i've been dieing for a hotkey to eject my ipod. i already use synergy for play/pause/view song hotkeys. but there aint a hotkey for ejecting ipod on there and when you're runnin late - which i never am! ha - a certain level of guilt surfaces when confronting with the option of taking 10 seconds out to set at the desk, grab the mouce, wake 'puter, use finder/itunes to manually eject the ipod... with a hotkey i can shave like 8 seconds of that mug. lol. ah, the fine things in life.

so without any further ado, here's a hodpodge of links i used to understand

+creating the apple script

+dumping said script into a QuickSilver (oh yeah, this is step 1.5. download it!) command. this is probably somewhere deep in the QS manual, but i got dude-ish (and frustated! ha) and eventually figured out that dragging and dropping said script file will automatically pull up Eject Ipod Script and the Run Action option. yay.

+and then making a trigger/hotkey out of it. (shut up, i know what you're thinkin! its going to save me time in the long run.)

i'm not genius, thats why i made sure to drop these links.

I'm gonna blog on this later, but urgent article to share:

The nine countries with higher rates of HIV infection than the U.S. are all located in sub-Saharan Africa. From Manhattan to Madagascar, from Montana to Moscow, the threat of AIDS unites HIV positive people in a global fight for social justice. The battle for the rights of people living with AIDS is an inextricable part of a larger ongoing battle for the rights of those everywhere who have been socially marginalized or even ostracized because of their sexual orientation, their use of drugs, their poverty or their gender.

pondering my blkgayness

today i've been thinking a lot about how it has come to be that i'm the type of gay black man that other races feel comfortable with? ..unless at night time, when all blk men, clarence thomas included, are all one and the same niggas thats going to snatch ms thangs purse! that i'm the black gay man who has more POC friends than black friends? that i only began watchin ANTM 3 years after the rest of black gay americana had already caught on... blkfags in freakin UTAH probably knew ms tyra's ANTM b4 i did?!

WHATS WRONG WITH ME!?

rofl!

seriously tho i know that there is nothing "wrong" with me, but still i'm like how did this all come to be?! yes, yes many questions. i know this sounds silly for someone of my authenticity (see profile picture) to be thinking about, but it's still that real yall. was it b/c way waaay back in the day i chose Seinfield over Martin? 104 KRBE over 97.9 THE Box? UT-Austin over my sister and brother's alma mater - Texas Southern? (okay, so yes.. BINGO! ding ding ding. "you're the lucky winner!") maybe. or it could be a combo of a lot of different choices, life moments that make me into the robot lovin'-approachable(in daylight hours)-POC friend havin'-blk gay man that i am today.

i ain't goin to even front i was a white-washed hoe some years ago! my dad - who some of you might have had the great pleasure to hear him spin at my birfday party in april - and sister even still gag when they hear me listening to "black music" or doing anything remotely black for that matter. lol. that oreo filling part of me has been scrapped off for some time now though. but i guess (once an oreo, always an oreo! lol. jus kiddin!) years and cities don't change all that i am, was, will be...

lately i've been contemplating cutting off my locks. i can't quite do it yet. all the work and $$ i put up in this head, prevents me from making an Andre-Impulse, but none the less I think about why is it I won't do it. Would I lose the afro-bohemian authenicity that i've clung to - sometimes for dear life and at other times for simple validity in some social circles here in this ciy? If thats the case then, so be it, these locks *are* going to go off.. maybe not today... er or tomorrow... but ONE day, they will. ha! if what i crave is original hair styles and natural hair (blk men we got the decision too easy, a perm? ha! but oohh, on 2nd thought how *real* wld that be!) then a nice shape up with parts, designs will be just as hot.

last friday, while getting my locks maintained and styled at locksnchops (touche!) in manhattan, i saw this sticker in the bathroom:

"we are all born original. most die as copies."

no shade, just something to thank about!

light,

anDre
